win32 build

Hi,

The last win32 I made can be found here:
home.scarlet.be/timvdm/avogadro-0.8.0-win32.zip

I wasn’t able yet to make the installer work.

some issues that might need testing:

  • conformer search seems to crash avo
  • try loading avogadro with the tools/extension and engines deleted,
restart with engines, … added again --> some engine names are wrong
    (e.g. VDW = surface, VDW = stick, …)
  • Insert smiles?

I really need to get some sleep now, but I’m sure that we’ll have a
working version ready for release tommorow.

Tim

Hi,

The installer is finished:

http://home.scarlet.be/timvdm/avogadro-0.8.0-win32.exe

Marcus, can you test it in VMWare? Other windows users on the list can
try it too of course…

I will boot into Windows Vista sp1 later today anyway, will test then.

Tested on a real Vista laptop and inside a VM. There may be one issue
with Vista at least, where we had to remove 0.6.1 and then install 0.8.0
otherwise Vista was making funny noises and Avogadro wouldn’t start up.
This was on someone’s laptop in the office who already had our previous
release on there.

It looks good though and I have added it to our available downloads on
SourceForge.

Thanks Tim!

I was just mailing with Louis Ricard, he tested it on win XP without
succes. New revision is available from:

http://home.scarlet.be/timvdm/avogadro-0.8.0-win32-rev2.exe

(This version doesn’t embed manifasts at all (rev1 was embedding it
for .exe, not for .dll)

Still have to get a reply, but in any case it’s safer to put rev2 on
the download pages (remove the rev2…) I don’t have permission to do
this :(…

You should have permissions now. (I don’t know why you didn’t before,
but I checked the tick for “Release Technician.” Sounds like the right
one.)

There may need to be an updated Mac build too.

Tim,

Do not know why, but after installing Openbabel, everything went
smootly.
I do not understand why the openbabel dll was not detected. I am not a
Windows expert.
While testing (with some bias), it works quite well. Some problem with
filters
in the gaussian extension: it expects fchk, while G03W uses fch. Also
detected a new
bug: Clear does not clear orbitals when the option is selected.
Surface does clear
everything. As Marcus puts it, gaussian support is in early stage of
development.

Will test the new rev later.

Overall, a very good release.

Cheers,
Louis

Sorry! Forgot to install openbabel.
Testing.

It comes with OpenBabel.dll, so this shouldn’t be required…

You should be able to embed on the exe just not the plugins. That is damn weird.

Yes, Louis just replied. So I think we can use the first revision
