Ubuntu Packages

Yesterday, I gave a workshop to some researchers in Aberdeen, MD. To support the workshop, someone whipped up an Ubuntu LiveDVD with Avogadro – this worked pretty well, particularly for packages like Open Babel, Qt, and Eigen which were easy to install using the “Ubuntu Customization Kit” (UCK) which allows modifying the default ISOs.

Right now, we have no one maintaining the Ubuntu packages, which linger at 1.0.0.

Any Ubuntu users want to step up? Even having someone build packages which may not be officially blessed by Ubuntu would be great.

Well, Ubuntu is syncing from Debian regularly, I didn’t pay a lot of
attention (although I believe I could technically still upload avogadro
to Ubuntu directly)

Looks like the latest LTS has 1.0.0, while the latest regular release
has 1.0.1.

Apparently there are some Ubuntu modifications to the Debian package
which means some manual work is needed to get 1.0.3 into the current
development release. I’ll see what I can do (preferably prodding some
Ubuntu guys to merge the Debian package rather than getting myself wet
instead  )

I probably won’t have the time to maintain 1.0.3 packages for Ubuntu
LTS, but if somebody wants to - great!
