The reason I use Avogadro2

I’m not sure if this information will be useful, but I’d like to share it:

In my setup, I use an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPU. When I run Avogadro 1.2.0, I encounter a Kernel-Power 41 error that forces my PC to reboot. I’m not sure exactly when this occurs during use, but it happens consistently. The same issue also occurs with the ORCA version of Avogadro. However, I have never experienced this problem on a Windows laptop, so I suspect it may be due to an incompatibility between the GPU and the software.

On the other hand, I have never encountered this issue with any version of Avogadro 2, which is why I now use it exclusively.

Lastly, I first started using Avogadro 2 about two years ago, and it has become significantly more user-friendly since then. Thank you very much.

Thanks! Glad to hear it’s working well for you.

Avogadro 1.2 used a very old set of 3D rendering methods. (We didn’t know much about OpenGL so we grabbed some tutorials which turned out to be ancient even for 2007-2008.) We particularly know there are issues on Windows because the GPU drivers aren’t designed for this style of rendering.
