I think the website should have a FAQ / Troubleshooting page (which links to this forum as well).
I welcome suggestions for topics:
- “I can’t run Avogadro on Windows due to missing DLL errors” ⇒ upgrade from 1.2
- “I’m running on Windows and don’t see the input generators” ⇒ install Python
- I’m running on Linux with Nvidia drivers
I had a student come in and ask for help because it was very slow .. it turned out they had a bunch of open apps on an 8GB laptop.
Other thoughts?
It genuinely might not be a bad idea to put an entry in the input generator dropdown if the generators aren’t installed that just says “Not seeing what you’re looking for?” and have it hyperlink to the FAQ page when it gets made. Would probably be a massive boost to the userbase since people won’t just immediately give up on it.

I mean, I’d like to make sure every Windows user (and Mac, evidently) gets Python packaged, but that’s a great idea for troubleshooting.
This would indeed be quite nice. I think those input generators are perhaps the most widely used feature of Avogadro, so guaranteeing that they work is very nice.
I need to remember to figure out what is going on with Avogadro/Pixi on Windows, last time I was trying it I think it still had a bit of difficulty finding the right path.
