Privacy statement/data protection missing

Hi all,

First, I want to congratulate all the team developing Avogadro 2; you have done an excellent job.

Second, I am a Lecturer at Atlantic Technological University in Ireland, and I would like to use the software for my teaching.
The problem is that I need to get permission from the university to install Avogaro on the university computers. To this end, I need to provide information showing that the software complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
For other software, this information is included in the privacy statement, where it is explained how the user data is collected/processed. I couldn’t find this information on the Avogadro website or in the licence agreement document.
Do you know where I can find the privacy statement/data protection for Avogadro?

Thanks,
Joaquin

We do not collect user data.

If you feel we need to make a privacy statement to comply, sure.

And for what it’s worth, there will be a new release in the next few weeks

GDPR doesn’t apply if no data is being collected at all

Yeah, although I think a privacy statement is still appreciated b/c various admins want to check boxes.

(For example, I know my university wants 24/7 tech support if a program is “officially” required for a class.)

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the reply.

I guessed that Avogadro didn’t collect data. Still, the Privacy Policy statement would be essential if I wanted the IT team to approve the software for use on the university computers.

The Privacy Policy you put in your reply should work.

Thanks

I did realize one minor change - some features use the net, and as a result your IP address is leaked to those servers. I’ll have to look up how to write that into the statement. I think I’ve seen something similar, but it might take a few days to find appropriate text.

Still, no personally identifiable information is collected or leaked.
