Overlay Axes as a Menu Command vs. Display Type

I’m working to clean up some of the arrow rendering code (because the current force arrows use old OpenGL that’s not supported well).

Right now, the overlay axes are a menu command: View ⇒ Overlay Axes

But it would be nice if they were a display type to make it easier to customize (e.g., drawing labels, changing colors, etc.). Thoughts?

  • Display type

By overlay axes you mean the x/y/z in the bottom left?

Yes, exactly. There are a few feature requests about color customization, adding text labels, etc. That’s easier if it’s in the display type list.

Sounds sensible to me.

In that case, on a somewhat related note, how would you feel about renaming “Display Types” to “Display Elements”?

To me the former implies different types of display, when really what they are is different things (components, elements) that are all part of the overall display.
