OpenID authentication for wiki?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been doing some long-overdue tuning and wiki cleanup. One thing that comes up with anti-spam is using OpenID for logins rather than creating a username.

Thoughts? There’s definitely a convenience factor since you don’t have to create/remember more passwords.

Thanks,
-Geoff

It wouldn’t hurt. Most sites I’m familiar with use that these days.

I’m all for it.

I use it on the wikis I use that make it available, and would love to
do it with more.

OK, it seems to work. Please let me know if people have issues before I publicize this to the rest of the mailing lists. If you already have an account, you can convert by logging in to the wiki and then going to this URL:

http://avogadro.cc/wiki/Special:OpenIDConvert

This will allow you to “claim” your Avogadro username by linking to an OpenID provider.

I have also done some pruning and removed tons of spammy usernames. Registered users should now be able to edit … and we’ll see if spam attempts occur again.
