Want to install older version before Avogadro2 one!
Got the .tar.gz file of v1.1.1 but don’t know how to install in my linux mint. Can anybody guide me? Newbie here…
You probably can’t. You’d need ancient versions of all the dependencies, since v1.1.1 was released back in 2013.
You have two general choices:
- installing an old binary (e.g., a Linux package or Windows binary)
- something like a Docker container running an old version of Linux, e.g. GitHub - grimme-lab/avogadro-container: Container version of avogadro1 for distros not supporting avogadro1 anymore

Every tutorial I got is based on Avogadro v1.1.1 and Avogadro2 has different GUI, which I find confusing something to relate with tutorial. Thus want to install the older one…
Which Ubuntu version do u think will be best for Avogadro v1.1.1?
What tutorials are you using? Maybe it’s easier to update the tutorials?
Well, v1.1.1 was released in December 2013, and v1.2 was released in 2016, so you’ll probably need to go back to 14.04 or something similar.
