We’ve participated for many years in Google Summer of Code.
Google also sponsors "Season of Docs:"
Google Season of Docs provides support for open source projects to improve their documentation and gives professional technical writers an opportunity to gain experience in open source. Together we raise awareness of open source, of docs, and of technical writing.
Accepted organizations will receive between US$5,000 and US$15,000 to use for a documentation project.
I can think of a few potentially useful projects:
- Create an onboarding guide (e.g., how to get started and make meaningful contributions)
- Run a documentation fixit
- Do a documentation audit (e.g., what is documented well? what needs more documentation?)
- Update docs for v2.0
Ideas? Suggestions?
We’ll also need to come up with some metrics … so ideas are welcome there too.
