It’s fine, I just didn’t expect it to be Chinese. https://x.com/WiselyCommaBaby/status/1732118148671779215?lang=en
Can anyone who reads chinese help me set the language to english?
I forgot to translate just in case this is a primarily chinese speaking forum now:
有人能帮帮我吗?我的应用程序默认语言是中文!
Looks like this is the same bug as here:
v 1.99 seems to pick whatever alternative keyboard layout is used in macOS and switches to that language, even though US English layout is the default, and there is no way to change that except removing these keyboard layouts.
For example, I use Greek layout to be able to easily enter Greek letters in formulas and such, and when I start Avogadro it automatically switches to Greek localization; I don’t speak Greek, so it’s clearly a problem.
Cheers,
-Qadir
I was able to fix this by removing the chinese character alternative keyboard layout. I had forgotten that I once let a Chinese colleague send an email from my device.
祝一切顺利,希望您能尽快解决这个问题!
We had to do a similar workaround with Avogadro 1.2. For some reason Qt doesn’t actually respect the preferred language on Mac, but reports something random for the locale?
This should fix it - I added French and Chinese to my MacBook (behind US English) and it seems to work correctly now.

Somehow Qt doesn't use this, but provides the list to apps?

Excellent! Many thanks from New Mexico. Even if Avo2 is occasionally buggy, (sometimes in humorous ways) I want to express our collective appreciation for the product. It is quite a feat, and we understand that contributor time is not unlimited. Thank you all for continuing to build this cornerstone tool.
Well, I’d definitely like to hear of bugs. This one was fairly easy to solve with Google, even though I have no idea why Qt thinks your locale was Chinese.
