Can't fetch by chemical name

I believe this to be a bug with Avogadro

Environment Information

Avogadro version: 1.2.0
Operating system and version: Win10 Version 1909

Expected Behavior

Molecule such as “butane” to appear after fetching by chemical name.

Actual Behavior

Nothing appears and the file name does not change.

Steps to Reproduce

Fetch by chemical name.

I have tried reinstalling Avogadro twice and even installing Avogadro2, and nothing has worked.

Update: No “Fetch” function works at all. I can not even use “Fetch by URL.”

I cannot confirm the bug – Avogadro 1.2 works fine for me. My setup: Avogadro 1.2.0, installed under Wine in ArchLinux, Open Babel 2.3.90 (do you have it?).

Well, it seems that 3 years has passed but the problem remains. Weird thing is that it fetches the molecules by name using the internet connection in my office, where I installed my Avogadro to my windows laptop. But it doesn’t when I bring my laptop to my dormitory which uses the same internet network of the campus. I do not now the root cause, tho.

The “fetch by name” in 1.2 uses HTTP not HTTPS. If it does not work reliably, we strongly suggest updating to a beta https://two.avogadro.cc/ since we cannot maintain 1.2.x.
