Getting 1.1 releases going... & Nightly Binaries

I’d like to propose that we start making 1.1 releases. It’s been months since 1.0 and 1.0.1, and there’s a lot of progress we should show off, including lots of work from David and Konstantin.

On a similar note, I have relaunched Mac nightly builds for both stable (1.0.x) and unstable (1.1.x) releases and they are finally back to their usable state. I think we need to add Windows nightly and ideally also Linux nightly builds.

Konstantin, are you generating Linux binaries? If so, do you want me to move them to http://avogadro.openmolecules.net/nightly/ ?

Any volunteers for building the Windows nightly?

Good idea! But AFAIK there were some unfinished things in OB regarding optimization steps. Also I know some unfinished things in Avogadro that should be fixed (by me probably) for 1.1

I’ve never generated them on constant basis, but there’s no potential problem. I also want them to be on official site, I used my site only as temporary file storage I have write access

Unfortunately, I’m busy these days, so can’t take it immediately. Also, I graduated some days ago and I’ll loose access to PCs in University soon, so I need to relocate my build environment.

Konstantin

There’s a showstopper - some users cannot save CML files. I can’t reproduce it so can’t debug it.
Also, Avogadro still doesn’t work on Windows with files containing Russian letters in the path, in spite of used toLocal8Bit.

Well, our idea was that odd-numbered releases (like 0.9 and 1.1) would be development versions. So unfinished things are OK, but obviously I’d like to get things fixed in OB. People are getting restless to get their hands on a OB-2.3 release.

I’m happy to arrange the “official site” bits once you have a stable build environment again and want to make some builds.

Also, I graduated some days ago

Congratulations!
