Export POV-Ray problem on Windows XP

Dear All,

I am a new user of Avogadro, using version 1.0.0 on Windows XP
platform. I am trying to get high resolution images of zeolite
structures using the program. Currently, the option to render POV-Ray
is failing with the following error message.

“POV-Ray failed to start. May be the path to the executable is not set
correctly.”

There was a little discussion on Marcus Hanwell’s blog about it, but
not a whole lot. Can anyone show me the way out of this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ramdas,

First of all, do you have POV-Ray installed? It is a separate program from Avogadro, available at www.povray.org

Does run PovRay ok by itself?

When you choose the Export POV-Ray … option in Avogadro, does the Path box have the correct path to the povray executable? It should be something like:

“C:\Program Files\POV-Ray for Windows v3.6\bin\pvengine.exe”

I booted-up my old Windows XP machine to make sure that this was correct. If installing Povray and making sure you have the correct path doesn’t fix the problem I don’t know what else to suggest.

Thanks Steve,

It was the path. Once corrected, seems to be working well. Although it
does not render the supercell, just the unit cell in the case of
zeolites.

Regards,
Ramdas.
