Avogadro relicensing agreement update

Hi,

Just a quick update from the replies I have received as far as
agreement to relicensing goes. Those who have replied positively (one
or two off-list, hopefully they will follow up with on list soon),

Marcus D. Hanwell
Casper Steinmann
David Lonie
Geoffrey Hutchison
Jens Thomas
Matthew Kennedy
Tim Vandermeersch
Eric Brown
Albert DeFusco
James Bunt
Jordan Mantha
Simon Ochsenreither
Gary Kedziora
Naomi Fox
Egon Willighagen

Those who have yet to reply,

Konstantin Tokarev
Donald Ephraim Curtis
Michael Banck
Jogvan Magnus Olsen
Benoit Jacob
Carsten Niehaus
Raimondas Galvelis
Ross Braithwaite
Shahzad Ali
Kristof Bal
Reinis Danne

Thanks to everyone who got back to me already, I will see if I can
follow up on a few of these in the next few days along with analyzing
the amount of code affected if some do not respond. As we get further
down the list there are less lines that were changed with the bottom
five all being less than 250 lines changed.

Marcus

Hi,

Nearly a day has passed, and hear is the latest update on those who
have agreed to relicensing. I would like to thank you all for sending
your agreement, this now covers the majority of the Avogadro code
base. I have done some analysis now on the number of files touched by
each person who has not replied, with Benoit Jacob and Cartsten
Niehaus both touching large parts of the code base. I have followed up
with them off-list using other contact methods. Many thanks to Donald
and Konstantin for agreeing to relicense their contributions.

Contributors for whom I have received agreement to relicense,

Marcus D. Hanwell
Casper Steinmann
David Lonie
Geoffrey Hutchison
Jens Thomas
Matthew Kennedy
Tim Vandermeersch
Eric Brown
Albert DeFusco
James Bunt
Jordan Mantha
Simon Ochsenreither
Gary Kedziora
Naomi Fox
Egon Willighagen
Konstantin Tokarev
Ross Braithwaite
Donald Ephraim Curtis
Raimondas Galvelis

The contributors who have not yet replied,

Michael Banck
Jogvan Magnus Olsen
Benoit Jacob
Carsten Niehaus
Kristof Bal
Shahzad Ali
Reinis Danne

Thanks,

Marcus

Hi,

So over the weekend and early today we got a reply from almost
everyone. I think it is easier now to list the contributors who have
yet to reply,

Michael Banck
Jogvan Magnus Olsen
Kristof Bal
Shahzad Ali

Looking at some rough numbers coming out of git log we now have
permission to relicense 99.24% of the code base (on the rough metric
of lines changed - thanks to whoever separated out the numbers and did
the maths), and looking at files touched that we don’t have agreement
to relicense they are isolated largely to the molpro and dalton
generators, and a few patches to one or two other files. For the
record, I have recorded agreements from,

Casper Steinmann
David Lonie
Geoffrey Hutchison
Jens Thomas
Matthew Kennedy
Tim Vandermeersch
Eric Brown
Albert DeFusco
James Bunt
Jordan Mantha
Simon Ochsenreither
Gary Kedziora
Naomi Fox
Egon Willighagen
Konstantin Tokarev
Ross Braithwaite
Donald Ephraim Curtis
Raimondas Galvelis
Carsten Niehaus
Reinis Danne
Benoit Jacob

If you have ways of contacting the remaining contributors it would be
great to get their replies. We will see if we can make a start on
porting some of the remaining features over to the Avogadro 2 code
base now that we have obtained agreements, along with looking at the
next 1.1 release.

Many thanks to all of our contributors!

Hi,

Less frequent (snow storm, winter bugs…) the list of contributors
yet to agree is very small,

Kristof Bal (2 commits)
Shahzad Ali (1 commit)

Their contributions were isolated, so we can likely work without them.
Thanks to all of our contributors who gave their agreement,

Marcus D. Hanwell

Like I said, Avogadro 1 will likely always link to Open Babel and so
be GPLv2 only effectively due to link time dependencies there, but
this does make the job of porting code infinitely easier. I appreciate
your generosity, and hope we can tempt some of you back to contribute
more code in the future.

Thanks,

Marcus
