3d rotation icon

I think current Navigation icon isn’t intuitive for 3D rotation. Attached 3d totation icon from Gabedit

Really, gabedit, ghemical and avogadro could use a common, nice icon
set. I think avogadro is the best so far, but I agree that the 3D
rotation icon isn’t great.

I have contacted a few professional icon designers and inquired about pricing for a toolbar set for Avogadro. If it’s a semi-reasonable price, my group will pay for them.

Otherwise, some of the KDE Oxygen icon designers have offered to make some for free, if we request them and explain the concepts. My worry is that the wait may be long.

Would these be under a “free content” license, so they can be modified and
re-used etc.? My impression was professionals are not too happy about this…

Hrm, I don’t think the avogadro icons are so bad that it warrants a
major budget.

Alternatively, we could request a couple of GNOME icons for ghemical as
well, and see who is first. Not sure how close Oxygen is to the default
GNOME icons (Tango these days, I believe), though.

I don’t think it’s a major budget, and I’m curious to know how much these things cost. In English, we have a phrase “starving artist.” Ideally, I’d like to encourage more designers to participate in open source.

Sounds good to me. I think we should approach this a few ways and see what looks best.
